A’Keisha  /  Immigration

I was arrested for peacefully protesting.

Story Summary:

A’Keisha lives on the South Side of Chicago and has been attending the regular protests at the ICE detention center at Broadview. She was knocked to the ground by police there and arrested, just for peacefully exercising her First Amendment right to protest.

She’s also watched as fellow Chicagoans were tear-gassed at point blank range and manhandled by ICE agents. And she has a message for everyone else watching this unfold: Bravery is like a muscle, and you have to work it for it to develop.

She says she and her fellow protestors were scared the first time they showed up. But now that they’ve seen the power of their actions, they’re committed to keeping up the fight against Trump and his masked ICE agents.
