ICE attacked me and put me in the hospital, even though I’m disabled.
Ashley is a Chicago area resident who has attended the peaceful protests at the Broadview ICE detention center. Without warning, ICE agents shot her repeatedly in the head and body with “less lethal” rounds, knocking her nearly unconscious. She was covered in bruises from the attack, but ICE agents on scene refused to help, despite visibly seeing that Ashley is disabled and uses a cane.
Even in the face of this kind of naked aggression, Ashley is refusing to back down or to stop speaking out. As soon as she healed, she was back on the front lines at Broadview, speaking out on behalf of the migrants who ICE is holding there. She says: “It is a cruelty to take down a disabled community member in the street, let alone whatever cruelty is occurring inside” the facility.
