Trump is screwing over the American farmer.
Mike is a farmland owner and serves on the board of the Iowa Farmers Union. From a lifetime in this business, he’s seen up close and personal the way Trump’s policies have wreaked havoc on rural Americans and their pocket books.
First, Trump’s trade war hit independent family farmers hard by increasing their prices and making their products less competitive. And his promised bailout money won’t be nearly enough to cover farmers’ losses.
Second, Trump’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill eliminated renewable energy subsidies, a growth industry in rural Iowa. Suddenly, Mike lost all of his contracts for wind and solar projects, and the state is seeing massive job losses as a result.
Mike says the situation for rural Iowans is dire. Every time Trump makes a promise to family farmers, he breaks it, and they’re stuck holding the bag. Making matters worse, all the proposed quick-fixes this administration comes up with are like “a band-aid on a bullet hole.”
