Despite our stellar outcomes, we’re being defunded

Despite strong outcomes—65% of trainees became faculty compared to the national average of 21%—the Trump administration’s changes to NIH priorities led to the program’s funding being pulled. The administration appears to be targeting initiatives that support diversity in science. As a result, dozens of postdocs doing critical research in cancer, infectious disease, and neuroscience may lose their jobs, and the next generation of scientists is now at risk.
