Paul Metsa  /  Immigration

I’m fighting Trump and ICE with my music.

Story Summary:

Paul is a lifelong musician who has played thousands of concerts in his life, all over the country. He follows in the great American tradition of protest folk music, and his songs have always addressed the political issues of the day. Right now, under the Trump administration, he says protest music couldn’t be more important.

He has attended anti-ICE rallies in his hometown of Duluth, MN, at the same time as thousands of ICE agents have flooded the state. He’s played his single “No Kings, No Crowns” before a crowd of thousands, and taught the audience to sing along. His message, reflected in the lyrics, is straightforward: “There’s way more of us than there are of them.”

Paul looks back to America’s founding for inspiration. He notes that, during the great battles of the American Revolution, it was the drummers who kept American patriots marching in lockstep. Likewise, throughout his life, protest songs have gone hand-in-hand with movements fighting state repression. That’s a legacy that Paul is carrying forward today.
