ICE’s actions are antithetical to the teachings of Jesus.
Rev. Worthington is the pastor of Highland Park Presbyterian Church outside of Chicago. He’s been attending the peaceful protests at ICE’s Broadview detention facility there, and he’s seen firsthand the cruelty and terror being inflicted on his community.
He has witnessed protesters being manhandled by agents, thrown to the ground, and arrested for nothing more than exercising their First Amendment rights. He’s seen fellow clergy mistreated in the same way, and he views it as a duty to bear witness and provide pastoral support.
For Rev. Worthington, the Bible is perfectly clear: ICE’s actions are antithetical to the teachings of Jesus Christ. And he has a message for those watching ICE’s actions in Chicago from afar: “If you think it can’t happen where you live, I thought the same thing.”
