Theo served as a team leader with AmeriCorps, leading 11 young adults on service projects across the South and South East Coast—disaster recovery in Florida, homebuilding in Virginia, flood prevention in South Carolina, community support in Kentucky, and National Park work in West Virginia. Midway through their service, the Trump administration drastically cut AmeriCorps, forcing the team to pack up and leave communities still in need. The program not only benefited those they served, but also gave young participants confidence, skills, and a lasting commitment to service. The defunding of AmeriCorps is a disaster for all Americans.
