William’s ancestors chose America. When they came to this country from Norway, they were choosing to build a better life on the assumption that America would always be stable, prosperous, and free. Donald Trump is now breaking that bargain.
Since Trump returned to office, he’s gutted government funding for research, unleashed masked thugs in the streets, and trampled on Americans’ rights. William has friends who are actively in the process of emigrating to Canada, and others whose scientific work was decimated by the administration’s slash-and-burn tactics.
This has all happened within a year of Trump re-entering office. William fears for what he could do with three more. He’s an old-school “Eisenhower Republican,” and he no longer recognizes the once-great party that’s now been re-made in Trump’s image. And he says that if his father were alive today, he would be horrified to see the damage that’s being done.
